Musicians from around the world will pay tribute to the words and music of the incomparable Elvis Costello on Beyond Belief: A Tribute to Elvis Costello, a compilation scheduled to be released in late 2014 on SpyderPop Records. CD’s are available HERE.
Co-produced by longtime Costello fans Olivia Frain and John M. Borack, the collection will feature artists putting their own spin on both Costello classics and deep cuts. Listeners will be treated to everything from 30-something-year-old gems from the new wave era to musical infants from Costello’s more recent work. Proceeds from the release will benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a non-profit organization that donates musical instruments to under-funded school music programs.
“We’ve seen Costello’s straightforward rock ‘n’ roll take dramatic turns into the realms of country, jazz, soul and even classical in the 35 years since the release of his seminal debut, My Aim is True,” Frain said. “Two things have remained constant through the various genres, collaborators and backing bands in which he has traveled, though: the amazing quality of his music and his incredible songwriting prowess.”
“That’s one of the reasons we came up with the idea to have some cool artists pay tribute to Elvis,” Borack continued. “There are just so many amazing songs in his catalog, and we wanted to hear what some of our favorite musicians could do with them.”
A variety of nationally-known and independent pop-rock artists will provide renditions of Costello’s songs for Beyond Belief, which will be released digitally as well as via a limited run of CD’s. More information can be found at Facebook/costellotribute.
